I know my husband's family, the Henshaws, at one time had the largest Red Angus herd in Texas. We'd like to find out what the brand was and possibly reactivate it, but so far, I haven't been able to locate any information from contacting the county offices. They were located in the coastal area.

i hear it alot "the angus is better" so they buy it at BK. well. the world doesnt produce that many 100% angus cattle. that burger may be 50% angus or not at every so why do they believe this? Bk isnt the only place, Arby's, Mc'D most quick food chains and restaurants claim 100% angus. half of the cattle i think are just black and because they are black "they must be angus" okay, there are at any one given time around 1.35 billion cattle (every breeds) in the world. india has a constant growing number because they dont eat them India: 332 million brazil: 174 mil china: 141 mil Us: 97 mil these are the top 4 countries with cattle these are every different breeds and their are ALOT of breeds. the U.S has a population of about 294 million, 1 million in agriculture not every in the cattle part either. and these quick food chains take a big number of the worlds cattle in a year but they are not every 100% angus we wouldnt have any more angus at every if this was the case. why do ppl believe that angus is the best meat? why do they believe thats its 100% Pure angus beef they are chomping on? oh yes and its not just any angus its BLACK angus. i personally believe the Belgian blue meat is healthier Rogue: lol i can look you staring at the burger shrugging then going eh "what the hell i have a coupon" hehe. the useual thing i hear at least where i live is "well since im eating quick food i should probably eat the only healthy thing on the menu" why they dont buy the salad rather than grease is beyond me. personally i like a simple cheese burger i try not to think of Anabel

I pastured 2 red angus X steers for the summer. I gave $115/cwt for them at time of purchase. They weighed about 400 when I bought them in the spring. I have one sold to a pal but I have not set a price yet. He wants to butcher his in a month or so. first they have not increased that much in frame although they have gained some weight. they are on irrigated pasture plus 1 gallon livestock feed each a day. How much should I charge for the 1 steer? And should I guess on live weight or should I charge on hanging weight. Not really a public scale nearby.

I have been around horses most of my life but as i'm about to graduate high school i'm leaning towards become a stock contractor for the PBR. I figured what couldn't be used as buckin' bulls could be used for beef. My questions: 1. How hardy are bulls (specifically angus / angus cross) are they like horses, where they need to be stalled in a barn or can I let them roam on a few acres? 2. Can I keep 15 - 20 bulls in the same 10 acre pen, or would they every battle? 3. If I kept them with cows for meat / reproducing, do I need to geld (castrate) a few bulls so they won't battle over the females? thanks

I recently had an accident at night with a black cow. I came around a corner at night and there was a black angus i was below the speed limit and slammed on my brakes as quickly as possible. Luckily, i Made out with only whiplash and a few cuts thanks to the seat belt but the car is totaled. But the owner of the cow has not stepped forward yet. I have ask around and this is not an common occurrence apparently. I myself was raised on a farm and was taught that you need to have insurance and take responsibility for things like this. And that's a risk as a farmer putting cattle against a highway. What should i Do? I have full coverage and i will be taken care of thankfully by it. But ethically shouldn't the owner step up to the dish so to talk? Yes the highway state patrol and an ambulance for myself was called immediately.

ok i was reading some of my cousins breeding and genetics books from her animal science studies. apparently if you breed a hereford to an angus you have what amounts to a cross breed bovine, but you can pick to turn that line into a purebred by breeding that back . hereford X angus= offspring A offspring A X hereford- offspring B apparently if you continued to breed the mixed offspring to that one purebred cow or bull for 5 generations the offspring would then be purebred hereford (since we kept breeding back to herefords) this works for the purebred cattle registries worldwide and also provides a larger healthier gene pool for the cattle while retaining the standard. ive been to cattle shows with her and have seen some of these fresh purebreds and they actually won. why do we not do that for dogs? or do some places? wouldnt it be good as long as we had a way to prove like cattle registries have, that the mix breed had that purebred in the 1st generation and continuously without inbreeding managed to breed it back into the genetics while providing fresh genetics? it has proved useful for keeping purebred cattle alive and eliminating some genetic health issues such as dwarfism in some cattle breeds that had serious health issues because of it . would you agree with a registry that managed to catalog this nice of information and allowed for 5th generation to be called a purebred? for instance, lab X golden lets say we want a lab, breed back into lab lines for the 5 generations and now you have a lab that if bred correctly will have fewer health issues and will meet the standard

I have a bull question, since I didn't receive any serious answers in the other pets section I figured I'd try here. What breed of cattle / bulls are good for both meat and buckin'? My great grandpa raised Angus for the slaughter home, and when I tried to receive them to buck they just sort of looked up at me, and kept eating. Is there any breed good for both?

I would like to add some cattle to my tiny farm. I seen on craigslist someone is selling a 1600# female angus cow and her 300 pound calf. The cow has been in the same lot with a angus steer. So there is a good chance she will have a calf. They want $1200.00 for the cow and calf. Is that reasonable?

My wife and I were scanning channels on TV and came across a cattle auction. The auctioneer was presenting 'lots' of several hundred heifer steer, weened calves, red angus, etc. Based on the prices, I have to guess that the cost is per head because the cost I saw varied from $80.75 to $116+. How does that work? Just curious... thanks!

My husband and I are thinking about becoming more self sufficient and want to lift cow's for meat for our consumption only. We don't want cows that we have to milk because well I have Lactose problems and we have decided to lift goats for milk. Also to receive more cows do I have to have a bull or is there in- vitro for cow's? Is it expensive? What is the best age to slaughter a cow? Is there a difference in taste from female to males? Thank you so much I have so many questions!

i came into class today and met some brain dead imbecile that plans to become a vet. she tells me she is horrified because a vet down the road from where she lives did an unethical procedure on her neighbors cow and is now planning it for her dog. what was this unethical procedure? if any of you know what it is to flush a pregnant female and harvest a fertilized embryo and implant it in another cow this is that. the neighbor had her reg angus cow impregnated with another cows (sexed) egg so the baby will be 100% unrelated to her herd of angus. so she can breed it to her females since it will be a bull. the lady also shows labradors and asked the vet if it would be possible to implant an egg from her CH female lab (she has trouble conceiving managed to have 1 litter before but the owner was afraid she would loose her during deliver) into her other female lab who might have an easier time delivering. the breeder expressed that the pups produced would have homes lined up every but one male that she might if it turns out as she likes and makes CH be bred to the surrogate mom who is a few points away from CH but should be CH by the time a male pup would be old enough to breed. the girl claimed this was incest and has been harassing the breeder threatening to call PETA because she is forcing incest on her dogs @.@ (note none of these animals are related) i would look that if it were humans and the child born from a surrogate mom was interested in the surrogate yes that would be sick but these are dogs and cattle and their is valid reason. for the cattle its because she wanted another breed of cattle in her herd and wanted a purebred but couldnt afford to boat the animal she wanted in from another country so she bought the bull she liked sperm and a cow of that breed she liked egg. for the dog its wanting better but fearing the loss of her dog who was only bred once but produced fantastic animals. your thoughts? if you were a breeder would you consider this method to receive better dogs and keep your dogs alive? as well as improve lines? would you use this method to receive the offspring from two animals you dont possess to add to your lines? have you heard of flushing an inseminated egg from an animal and placing it in another female? uhave2b: i dont know the womans name the girl that plans to be a vet said she was doing it to the dog but i do doubt it as it is a tiny clinic i pass by every day that mainly works on horses and cattle and minor dog and cat health problems. i would adore to know who would be the first to do it. Jayse: i agree, but im sure some would do it either way or even if they just saw that dog as to valuable to risk and know the other female (potential surrogate) has birthed before without issue and would be less likely to have issues. or if they had an injury and couldnt be bred naturally. oregano: i would think someone sane would do it with only 1 embryo as the cost is 2k per embryo for cattle. and as a way to only receive a dog for themselves because of the cost and risks to the animals involved. i couldnt imagine putting 6 fertilized embryo's in a dog 2k each and hoping to sell those dogs to homes...the only reason i look for this is for a breeder to receive another dog for themselves

So I can't stand the taste of rare or even medium rare steak.. the last time I had it I almost threw up. I don't like the texture of most meats and if I think about what i'm eating I have to cease eating it. I can pretty much only eat steak/turkey/chicken, etc. if its really dry. I live on a farm where we lift a tiny herd of 10 Angus cattle for meat pretty much just for personal use. My family thinks its crazy not to like meat and frown upon not eating meat. They will almost force it down my throat untill I eat it. I mean its not like I want to not like it.. I want to like meat.. I just, don't. So should I just keep plugging my nose and forcing it down.. or am I truely a vegan/vegetarian? I just don't know what to do.. need some advice p.s. I adore animals and want to be a vet when I grow up. I'm 16. I don't think eating animals is wrong.. as long as its in moderation

Does it annoy you (in the slightest) that the food service industry has capitalized on the broad term "Only 100% Angus Beef"?...Considering that cattle may be "certified" as Angus by a 51% black coloring ratio. (Red Angus...?) It seems that quality now correlates more with hide color (or breed, even if impure) than a USDA beef grade? Why not advertise instead for 100% Choice Beef...? Maybe KFC will start promoting %100 Rode Island Red chicken...(for the superior tasting, leaner meat!)........I don't receive it? *Bored, grew up raising registered black angus....and hate sales gimmicks.

New Market, Al. 35761 I am writing this letter with lots of excitement about our upcoming sale “Genetic Connection Sale” that will be August 6th, 2011 at Macedon Angus Farm in Mooresville, Al. Macedon Angus Farm has been breeding Angus cattle for 80 years and have their annual production sale the second Saturday in May each year. I know each of you want this to be a success this year and for many more to arrive. That said, there are a few things we can do to ensure we will be ready as time closes in on us. 1.Make sure that you have registered the animals that you plan to sell. 2.If you need to check for Homo Black/Homo Polled status, do that so we will be ready for the footnotes in the catalog. 3.If you have any animals that you need to test for Genetic Defects, you need to be doing this. If you have questions about this issue, check Simmental website for genetic status. 4.We need to slick shear these animals so they will be ready for pictures soon. Doug and I plan to look you and your animals around mid-May so it is not too early to start thinking about how your cattle will look when we take pictures the last of May. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please call Doug Parke or myself. Also we have invited a few top commercial breeders to join us. They will be offering a nice group of Simmental sired heifers. We are looking forward to working with each of you and having a great Genetic Connection Sale. Is this the correct way of doing a letter

Was this guy into me? Now what? So here is a little back round. I am a teen who works as a cashier on the side and I receive a lot of people who live on farms, esp young farm boys. This guy looked to be around my age and I thought he was REALLY cute. Also the fair is this week and the local 4h group does showing. Here is what went on: So he comes to my lane with a bunch of salt blocks and I was like hi and how are you, etc. I then ask,"you going to be needing a farm sheet today?" He says no. So as curious as I am and no city folk ever buy that many salt blocks I ask, "what type of farm you got?" He says, "cattle." I say "beef or dairy?" he replays, "beef." So I ask, "Angus?" He says "Short Horn." So then I say, "Well that's chilly. Are they Feedlot Cattle?" He smiles and says "Some Feedlot and some breeding." Then I ask, "So do you have any other animals or is it just the cattle?" He replays with, "Just the cattle." I then grin and say, "Well I think you should receive some horses on that farm of yours!" He laughs and says, "Naw, I don't like any of them!" I then say "Well how could you not like horses......" Then I ask if he does any showing and he says yes for 4h. Then I ask if hes showing in the local fair. He said he was. he then asks "you gonna be showing them horses in the fair?" I say, "No, unfortunately you have to possess one to compete. So I stick to training and lessons." I then ask if he will be checking out the rodeo at the fair. He says hes not sure because they are showing early Wednesday morning. So i mention that there is bull riding on thursday that seems REALLY fun. He agrees. Well then they go to take off and he says maybe I will be seeing you in the 4h barns this year? I say well i might just have to pop in and say hi to you and maybe watch you show. He smiles and says ok. So I go look you around and good luck! Well on Wednesday I go to the fair and gander into the 4h barns. Well I eventually find him there and he finds me. What happens is, we didn't talk, but we passed each other down this little hall way sort of thing, we look each other. He looks at me, looks away and then looks back! We kept eye contact for like 20 sec and both turn our heads to keep looking as we pass. Also again being curious I watch him show a little bit and mom said he would grin at me when he was in the ring. BUT WE DIDN'T TALK!!!!! Mom was getting every cranky and said she wanted to go, so I didn't have a chance to look him after! So mom tells me, ok you did your part now if hes interested he will do his. Well I haven't seen him at the store in a month! So was he interested in me? Could he still arrive back for me? what should I do?

I've been curious about the pretty strong marketing emphasis promoting Black Angus cattle. im sorry this is a long word problem, but its just help with one question. In Aberdeen Angus, the dominant traits for hair color and presence of horns is Black (B) and Polled (P). Having the need for a purebred 'Black-Baldie', Mr. K bought a bull with desirable traits from another cattle operation to be the sire for his spring calves. Mr. K used the black and polled sire to impregnate the cows in his herd that phenotypically were black and polled. When the offspring were born, they were red haired and had buttons (the beginnings of horns in cattle). Question: Was he duped or deceived? (i dont know which 'he' he is talking about...)

Leviticus 19:19 (King James Version) 19Ye shall keep my statutes. Thou shalt not let thy cattle gender with a diverse nice: thou shalt not sow thy field with mingled seed: neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woollen arrive upon thee. Seriously, what's the point of these rules? And since every sin is equal, do you really think those who wear mixed fabric or breed an Angus cattle with a Texas Longhorn go to hell like the murderers and infidels? And why can't we have a diverse garden?! I have one, it's awesome. I'd receive sleepy of only beets.

Hi, I am a 4-H member. This will be my fourth (and last, I'm a senior in high school!) year raising steers for 4-H. In the past, I have always raised Herefords/black baldys, but I wanted a challenge this year, so I chose to lift Angus. When fitting my Herefords for show, I always clipped them a little on the long side, leaving the hair even longer on their hips and rumps in order to cover flaws and I left the face very long. I also did the classic ratted and hair sprayed Hereford tail. I know that Angus are fitted differently - their entire body is clipped closely to showcase their muscularity, and their heads hardly have any hair left at every. I also know that the tail is generally not ratted like a Hereford. Does anyone have any tips for me in fitting an Angus steer? Do Angus cattle have any characteristic weaknesses that need to be hidden by grooming (such as a Hereford's narrow rump being combed the opposite direction to make it look wider)? Thanks so much!

I have a few questions about sets. Im in algebra 2 as a freshman but as a seventh grader in algebra 1 they never taught us about sets in this manner so now I have to learn how to do it by myself because my teacher is lost in whats going on and I want to make sure i know this. 1) The set T represents several Taurine breeds of cattle. T {Angus, Devon, Shorthorn, Texas Longhorn} The set Z represents several Zebu breeds of cattle. Z {Boran, Nelore, Ponwar} What is the total number of elements in the set T x Z ? What I did for this one was i had: {(Angus, Boran) (Angus, Nelore) (Angus, Ponwar) (Devon, Boran) etc and ended up with twelve. did I do this right? 2) Set D lists the ages of Dianna’s grandchildren. D {2, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11} Set K lists the ages of Karen’s grandchildren. K {2, 10, 18} Set P lists the ages of Patrick’s grandchildren. P {10, 11, 14} What is the greatest age in the set (K u P) n D? I'm thinking about raising beef cattle, not as a business, just as a hobby. I have raised Angus and Hereford cattle in the past, but never Charolais cattle. So, what are the pros and cons of raisng Charolais cattle? How do they compare to Angus and Hereford? Thanks.

For my AG class we have to do a project over cows. We basically have to create a farm. We have to create a minimum 20 slide powerpoint and gift it to the class. I have a herd of 100 angus beef cattle. I have no idea what nice of barn, how big the barn, what nice of pens, and every the other stuff like feed, hay, identification tags, fertilizer for the grass, wormer, medication, and branding. I also have NO idea what nice of tractor I'd need. He said there is some "big equipment" that we need, but I don't know what that is considering I know like nothing about cows. If you could PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me that would be just wonderful! the more detailed you are the higher the chance for best answer!
